Fundamentally, they converted a persona of affection into a figure of hostility who endorses precisely the cruelties that he criticized in scripture; this has happened more gradually, through multiple decades rather than months, yet it remains disconcerting in the same ways, a bewildering emotional blow for numerous individuals.
A Damaging Christianity Gains Ground
Hence I shall explain the Jesus that I grew up with, because theoretically the Savior is the core of any Christian faith, and given that the rapidly expanding group of Americans may possess limited understanding about him because they identify as atheists or agnostics or religiously unaffiliated. I raise no objection with these different approaches, nor with any other faith; but I do think that exist valuable insights of great price within Christian narrative.

The evident and straightforward reality that the Savior from scripture requests a form of extreme compassion centered on the needy has perpetually caused Christian religion rather a provocative belief system: attractive to the general public, but because of its natural unconventionality needing to be controlled. In the 1950s it was restrained through watering down – Protestantism was so widespread that it essentially baptized the status quo.
A Struggle for the Highest Among Us
Therefore I have felt inspired to see the determined opposition to Trump develop in this past year. It has provided significant comfort to participate in developing the campaign that has taken to the streets in rally after rally, and seems to have inspired citizens to participate in numbers in interim political contests. We shall require to persist with it, and with identical determination, with American flags throughout each rally and appeals to the highest qualities within national heritage.

America is best defended, in other words, through connection to the best within national tradition, just as Christianity is best defended by reference to that which renders it distinctive and wonderful, which is the example of Jesus. In both situations does it mean feigning the most negative of both America and religious tradition was nonexistent; it signifies both modesty and belief, a combination that genuine US believers should be comfortable with.
